Game 5
Meco Piledrivers 10 - Justice 2
In a game that could see the Piledrivers clinch a winning season, the boys from Meco did not disappoint. The dominance started early and continued until the final whistle. It is easy to look at this game and pick out some very important things that Meco was able to do; things that have not always happened in the past.
The first game began with an over confident Meco making silly mistakes. It appeared that the Piledrivers may be destined to playing at their opponents level again. In an effort to maintain the form of last week, the Wolf was the first out. With two minutes left, Sanford, Rage and the Free Agent were squared off against 5 members of Justice. Two catches and two hits later, the tables were turned and Meco never looked back.
Questions arose from the inclusion of three female members of Justice. How would Meco Piledrivers react to this? The questions were promptly answered when Big Bri fired fastball after fastball after fastball at the girls, eventually hitting one that had already been eliminated. This was reminiscent of Meco's play against a pre-teen last year that Wolf and Rage aggresively attacked. It sends the message that nothing is sacred on the court. If you step on to the dodgeball court, someone from Meco will try to drill you.
TJ and the Free Agent fired some particularly memorable shots. The scales of justice on the shirts of the opposition were certainly hit hard many times. At one point a member of Justice made the remark "that was another solid hit".
Some intense rivalries formed during the match. The only member of Justice not sporting the scales was an athlete wearing a gray t-shirt. He was the loudest dodgeball player anyone has ever seen... he made more grunts and squeaks and huffs and puffs than we have heard in the previous year and a half combined. He also attempted the ball-less decoy run perfected by the Wolf last session. He and Rage had a fierce contest between eachother. Often ignoring the rest of the team, these two fierce competitors battled often. Each had their own kamikazes... (although Rage had a low percentage success rate, at least it was fun to watch).
Kelley got drilled in the face by what may be a brewing rival, the referee. In turn, Kelley rallied the Piledrivers to all attack the ref at the start of the last game. In a true show of sportsmanship, when Kelley was the last man standing, the ref joined him until the end!
No game report would be complete without the mention of a new nickname... Rage has now become "hetero". In an early part of the game, he attempted to insult soccer players by saying "I'm not into soccer, I'm hetero"... this was followed by the man in stylish designer frames gracefully leaping and pirouetting around in his attempt to eliminate everyone with kamikazes. It is sometimes a difficult task to keep Reebok Pumps attached to the ground... Hetero just had to soar!
3 wins - 2 losses, 33 points
Other notes After what is perhaps the most ineffective game of dodgeball ever, founder of the Meco Piledrivers has been demoted to team journalist. This appears to be the only skill he has that is even remotely adequate.
