Game 5
Meco Piledrivers 4
Premium Fuels 8
The sound you heard last night was a three game win streak coming to a screeching halt. The piledrivers suffered an emotional loss at the hands of Premium Fuels. The game was an intense affair featuring a few flare-ups.
The game started well enough with the piledrivers winning the first contest. Caraco actually played an effective first match, catching two and hitting three. The Piledrivers lost badly in game two. There was already some anger brewing between sides as Premium accused us of not following the honor system and we returned with the same argument. This animosity would come back to haunt the Piledrivers.
Game three was a collapse the likes of which we may never see again. With 5 men left against only one opponent, the Piledrivers let their guard down. There were two almost immediate hits. In a text book play, the Wolf chased down the Premium Fueler and caught him off balance. As the Fueler fell, Wolf decided it was necessary to punish the opponent and threw the ball as hard as possible from about four feet. Not only did Wolf miss, but he fell over the line from overexertion and Cheney followed assuming the game would be over. The Piledrivers lost that game in overtime and never fully recovered.
Major highlights included Rob Evel having a breakout game; a four way collision between Collins, Cheney, Bornt and Rob trying to avoid a throw; Bornt battling through a hammy injury late in the game; and Collins suffering the phantom injury that afflicts many sallies. As the game wore on, the Piledrivers looked in vein towards the bench so that they could get a breather before the next game, but there were no substitutes to be found.
