Game 5

Meco Piledrivers 4
Premium Fuels 8

The sound you heard last night was a three game win streak coming to a screeching halt. The piledrivers suffered an emotional loss at the hands of Premium Fuels. The game was an intense affair featuring a few flare-ups.

The game started well enough with the piledrivers winning the first contest. Caraco actually played an effective first match, catching two and hitting three. The Piledrivers lost badly in game two. There was already some anger brewing between sides as Premium accused us of not following the honor system and we returned with the same argument. This animosity would come back to haunt the Piledrivers.

Game three was a collapse the likes of which we may never see again. With 5 men left against only one opponent, the Piledrivers let their guard down. There were two almost immediate hits. In a text book play, the Wolf chased down the Premium Fueler and caught him off balance. As the Fueler fell, Wolf decided it was necessary to punish the opponent and threw the ball as hard as possible from about four feet. Not only did Wolf miss, but he fell over the line from overexertion and Cheney followed assuming the game would be over. The Piledrivers lost that game in overtime and never fully recovered.

Major highlights included Rob Evel having a breakout game; a four way collision between Collins, Cheney, Bornt and Rob trying to avoid a throw; Bornt battling through a hammy injury late in the game; and Collins suffering the phantom injury that afflicts many sallies. As the game wore on, the Piledrivers looked in vein towards the bench so that they could get a breather before the next game, but there were no substitutes to be found.

Game 4 - I didn't know you was gonna send the wolf?!?!?

Meco Piledrivers 7
CD Refs 5

Game four was all about wolf and captain sanford. With almost everyone else having an "off day" wolf and bornt led us to victory. Wolf is cementing his standing as the frontrunner for team mvp, but bornt is doing his best to keep him close.

The match started with meco charging out of the gates and dominating the first game. cd refs promptly stuffed us in the next three to open up an imposing 3-1 lead. However, our two all stars would not accept defeat easily. the wolf began a lesson in domination. there were several games when wolf would hit three or four guys and also catch two or three balls. the cd refs could not handle his brazen attacks. in the meantime, bornt continued his steady play and was a factor in nearly every game.

The play of Wolf and Bornt was supported by strong contributions from Rob Evel and Worm. Rob had his best match of the season and worm continues to be a steady contributor. cheney lasted long in every game. Collins made a very exciting debut and geoff contributed a few late hits.

On the other end of the spectrum was woj and caraco. each one tried to be more worthless than the other. thankfully both were eliminated almost immediately in each game as almost every ball they threw was caught.

A thank you to the strong show of support for the meco piledrivers as many spouses, girlfriends and families came expecting a victory... they did not leave disappointed.

In two weeks the piledrivers face off against a powerful premium fuels team at 10:00

Game 3

Meco Piledrivers - 6
Old Skool (TBA) - 4

Well everyone... another spectacular show by the piledrivers. for the second straight week, we played an impressive first half and went to the halftime break leading 4-1. first half highlights included some exciting foot work by worm and the continued growth of cheney as a dominating force on the dodgeball court... no one can throw a pop-fly quite like him.

As the second half started, again the piledrivers got into some trouble. we promptly got defeated in the first two matches of the second half. the third match appeared to be on its way to the same type of ending until inspirational leader wolf (playing through the pain of cracked ribs) decided that things had to change. with three men left per team, wolf went on a seek and destroy mission and aggressively went after TBA eliminating all of them in short order. this put us up 5-3 with not much time left. i believe it was this very same game that geoff kelley took a fastball to the left eye that hampered his ability for the next few matches.

This match served as the turning point and the piledrivers ended up on the winning side, 6-4.

Other highlights of the game included the fine arm of woj (even if he can't tell wehn he will run across the line)... bornt holding two balls and catching a third as it was thrown at him, and worms continued enthusiasm.

Game 2

Meco Piledrivers - 8
Cow Tippers - 4

well, the meco piledrivers have tasted victory... how sweet it was...

we came roaring out of the start to dominate the first half. we entered halftime with a 7-0 lead...
the second half started with a hotly contested loss... for the first time we played an overtime. in spite of losing, we killed enough time that we were pretty sure that the Cow Tippers would run out of time before hitting 7 wins.

it was obvious that the piledrivers were rattled. we lost focus and disciplin and dropped three more games. With the score 7-4 we had time for one more match which ended with victory and a final score of 8-4...

After two matches we are 1 - 1 with 12 points...

Match HIghlights included aggressive attacks by the WOLF, graceful attacks by WORM... he developped a technique where he throws the ball while diving to avoid the retaliation throw... it was very effective, CHENEY finally eliminating someone and pumping his fists in reply, Butch EVEL getting hit square in the back several times by the same player...

Our first injury!

Wolf broke his ribs! We have our first dodgeball injury... it happened during week 1 when ted's cranium collided with wolf's ribs. He has been sore since then, but in a double show of manliness; he waited 10 days to seek medical attention and he played through the pain and plans to continue doing so...

on behalf of the MECO PILEDRIVERS, i would like to say "congratulations wolf... you're the man!"
